We are all spending more time then ever at home right now, and you might be looking around and thinking, it's time to give this room a makeover!
Our home should be that place you feel the most comfortable a place you relax and enjoy spending time in. But sometimes when we spend so much time in a space it starts to look drab and feel uncomfortable, we don't get that peaceful feeling once had when we walked into the room. Once that starts to happen it's time to give the room a refresh!
I'm going to give you my top 8 tips to refresh your room and get you excited about spending time there again and the best part is, you can do it all in one weekend!
CLEAR OUT ROOM
Start by removing everything but the furniture from your space. By removing everything you will be able to see your space with fresh eyes. If you already have a vision in your head of how you the room to look like, now you have a clean slate to work with.
FRESH PAINT OR WALL TREATMENT
Now's the time to really look at your walls. Could they use a fresh coat of paint or does your vision for your room call for color change or maybe a focal wall. You will be surprised how just a fresh coat of paint can brighten up you room and give you a whole new outlook.
Maybe you vision calls for a focal wall, have you seen all the grate peel and stick wallpapers that are out now? You can get peel and stick wall covering that looks like shiplap, brick, stone and tile just to name a few. I am a huge fan of the peel and stick because it's so easy to put up and easy to take down if you decide you don't want it anymore. I highly recommend giving the peel and stick paper a try.
FURNITURE PLACEMENT
Take a look at your room do you have a space that allows you rearrange your furniture? Your will be amazed at the difference it makes when you just move everything around.
WINDOW TREATMENTS
Most people don't change out their curtains or window treatments that often and if you have had the same window treatments for years, well now's the time to try something new. This will make a huge difference especially if you aren't giving you wall a fresh coat of paint.
TEXTURE AND LAYERING
This is where you start add some of your personal style. Add a big rug to the area where you have your couch and seating arranged, to give you a cozy feel and pull your seating area together. Add some big pillows and maybe a throw blank to your couch and chairs for warmth and tie your room together. One of my favorite items is the big floor pillows. These are grate to pull out for some extra seating and the kids will love them! Just stack in a corner of the room or under a large table while not in use.
SHOP YOUR HOUSE
A grate way to freshen up your room without spending a lot of money is to shop you house. Walk around your house and see what you have that might work in your new space. Sometimes just moving an item from one room to another gives it the feel of being brand new again. Look for things like lamps, artwork, a vase, or a rug. It will amaze you how different these pieces will look once you add them to a different room.
ACCESSORIES
Now is the fun part! Adding accessories to create the feel you want to give the space. If you are adding some of the same items you had in that space before your refresh make sure when you put them back in the room you give them a new spot. If you go putting everything back in the same place you room will start to take on the same look it had before you pulled it all out.
A grate way to give you space that cozy feel is to add your favorite candle or wax melts. The smell of a space is really key, in how you feel about the space. If your looking for a grate candle I recommend CrossRoads Candle. I love these candles and the best part is they never lose their smell and they burn even and last a longtime. (we carry CrossRoads Candle in our shop if you want to check them out).
Another grate item to add are house plants. House plants do wonders for giving your room a fresh look. If you don't have a green thumb, you can always pick up some realistic artificial plants.
ADD A PERSONAL TOUCH
Lets finish up the room by adding some items that have meaning to you and your family. We all love the rooms we see on Pinterest but if you recreate a room that doesn't reflect your unique personality then you wont get that relaxing joyful feeling you get when you walk into a space and see some of your favorite things that have meaning to you personally.
Now it's time to sit down and enjoy the new space you just created!
