Tips & Tricks for Country Style Decorating

Simple Ways to Refresh Your Home with Spring Touches

March 01, 2025

As the days grow longer and nature begins to bloom, it's the perfect time to bring the fresh, airy feeling of spring into your home. After months of cozy winter decor, a seasonal refresh can brighten your space and lift your spirits. Whether you love farmhouse, vintage, or country-inspired styles, these simple touches will help you welcome spring in a warm and inviting way.

1. Incorporate Light and Airy Fabrics

Swap out heavy winter textiles for lighter options like cotton, linen, and gauze. Choose pastel or floral-printed pillow covers, lightweight throws, and breezy curtains to create a fresh and open feel. Adding slipcovers in soft, neutral hues can also lighten up your space instantly.

2. Bring the Outdoors In with Florals and Greenery

Nothing says spring like fresh flowers and greenery! Fill your favorite vintage pitchers, mason jars, or country-style vases with seasonal blooms like tulips, daffodils, and hydrangeas. If you prefer long-lasting decor, opt for high-quality faux florals that still give that cheerful, garden-fresh look.

3. Refresh Your Table with Seasonal Accents

Your dining table is a perfect spot to showcase the beauty of spring. A simple runner in a soft pastel shade, a rustic wooden tray with fresh greenery, and a set of candle holders with taper candles in spring colors can create an effortless seasonal centerpiece. Adding charming Easter or spring-themed plates and napkins can make everyday meals feel extra special.

4. Update Your Wall Decor

Give your walls a fresh look by swapping out winter-themed artwork for spring-inspired pieces. Botanical prints, framed floral designs, or a vintage-style spring sign can instantly change the mood of a room. If you have a gallery wall, consider adding in light, nature-inspired elements to embrace the season.

5. Add Seasonal Touches to Your Entryway

Your entryway sets the tone for your home, so why not greet guests with a bit of spring charm? A rustic bench with floral cushions, a basket filled with fresh flowers, and a welcoming spring wreath on your door create an inviting space that hints at the beauty inside.

6. Swap Out Candles and Scents

Change the ambiance of your home by switching to spring-inspired scents. Citrus, lavender, lilac, or fresh linen candles and diffusers can help bring the essence of the season indoors. A beautiful candle holder or lantern on your mantel or entryway table can add warmth and charm.

7. Use Woven Baskets for a Rustic Spring Look

Baskets are not only functional but also a great way to add a touch of country charm to your home. Use them to store cozy throws, display faux flowers, or even as a decorative touch in your kitchen filled with fresh fruit.

8. Brighten Up with Spring-Themed Kitchen Accents

Give your kitchen a seasonal lift with spring-themed tea towels, floral dishware, or a farmhouse-style wooden tray displaying fresh herbs. Even small details, like changing your coffee mugs to a floral or pastel design, can make a difference in your daily routine.

9. Create a Cozy Spring Nook

Designate a small corner of your home as a cozy spring-inspired space. A comfortable chair with a light throw, a floral pillow, and a side table with a vase of fresh flowers can create a perfect reading or coffee nook to enjoy the season.

10. Outdoor Touches to Welcome the Season

Don’t forget your porch or patio! A spring wreath, a fresh doormat, and some potted flowers can make your outdoor space just as inviting as your indoor decor. A rustic rocking chair or a farmhouse-style bench adds a welcoming touch for those crisp spring mornings with a cup of coffee in hand.

Spring is a time of renewal, and your home should reflect the beauty of the season. With just a few simple updates, you can transform your space into a light, cheerful retreat that embraces the warmth and charm of spring. What are some of your favorite ways to decorate for spring? Let us know in the comments below!

Holiday Decorating Tips & DIYs to Make Your Space Shine Before Christmas

December 18, 2024

The countdown to Christmas has begun, but there’s still time to add some festive touches to your home! Whether you’re hosting a holiday gathering or simply enjoying the season with loved ones, these quick decorating tips and DIY ideas will help you create a warm, inviting space bursting with holiday cheer.

Add Instant Glow with Twinkle Lights

Twinkle lights are the easiest way to create a magical atmosphere. Drape them along mantels, weave them into garlands, or fill glass jars and lanterns with a strand for an instant centerpiece. Don’t forget to add them to your kitchen for a cozy vibe while baking holiday treats!

Pro Tip: Use warm white lights for a classic look or mix in multi-colored strands for a playful pop of color.

DIY Orange Slice Garland

Nothing says vintage holiday charm like a homemade orange slice garland. Not only does it look beautiful, but it also fills your home with a sweet, citrusy aroma.

Here’s how to make it:

  • Slice oranges into thin rounds and pat them dry.

  • Bake at 200°F for 2-3 hours, flipping halfway through until dry.

  • String the dried slices onto twine, adding wooden beads, cinnamon sticks, or star anise for extra texture.

  • Hang on your tree, mantle, or doorway for a rustic touch.

Create a Holiday Table Centerpiece

Transform your dining table into a festive focal point with a quick DIY centerpiece. Gather items you already have, such as:

  • A woven basket or wooden tray

  • Bronze bells, kugel ornaments, or candle holders

  • Greenery (real or faux) like pine branches, eucalyptus, or holly

  • Taper candles for an elegant glow

Arrange these elements together for a stunning tablescape that’s perfect for Christmas dinner.

Style a Festive Shelf or Mantel

If you have shelves or a fireplace mantel, now’s the time to make them shine! Use a mix of textures and heights for visual interest.

  • Add mercury glass accents for sparkle.

  • Layer greenery with bronze bells or twinkle lights.

  • Incorporate holiday wall art or a charming Christmas Carol sign for a touch of nostalgia.

Quick Tip: Group items in odd numbers and vary the sizes to create balance and flow.

DIY a Rustic Winter Wreath

Welcome guests with a handmade wreath that captures the cozy essence of the season.

Materials:

  • A grapevine wreath base

  • Greenery (fresh or faux)

  • Pinecones, berries, and small ornaments

  • A ribbon for hanging

Simply tuck greenery and decor pieces into the wreath base, securing with floral wire as needed. Top it off with a bow and hang it on your front door or above a mantel.

Bring the Outdoors In

Nature-inspired decor is a timeless way to celebrate the season. Head outside and gather pinecones, branches, and sprigs of greenery to add natural charm to your space.

  • Place pinecones in baskets or bowls for rustic accents.

  • Use branches to create a simple arrangement in a vase.

  • Mix fresh greenery into your existing decor for an organic, festive feel.

Set the Mood with Scented Candles

A holiday-ready home isn’t just about the visuals—it’s about the scents, too! Light candles in seasonal fragrances like cinnamon, pine, or vanilla to make your home feel extra cozy. Pair them with bronze candle holders for a stylish touch.

Make a Mini Hot Cocoa Bar

Nothing warms the heart (and hands!) like a steaming cup of hot cocoa. Set up a small hot cocoa bar on your counter with:

  • A tray or tiered stand

  • Mugs, cocoa mix, marshmallows, and candy canes

  • Jars of toppings like crushed peppermint or chocolate shavings

This charming setup doubles as decor and a fun activity for guests or family.

DIY Wrapped Presents as Decor

Wrap empty boxes in beautiful holiday paper and add ribbons or bows for a budget-friendly decor idea. Stack them under the tree, on shelves, or even as part of a tablescape.

Bonus Idea: Use kraft paper and tie with twine for a classic, country-style look. Add a sprig of greenery or a dried orange slice for extra flair.

Don’t Forget the Small Touches

Sometimes, it’s the little things that make a big impact. Swap out everyday linens for festive ones, add seasonal pillows and throws, and sprinkle in a few ornaments or figurines around your home for extra charm.

With these quick tips and DIYs, you’ll have your home looking picture-perfect just in time for Christmas. Remember, the best decorations are the ones that bring you joy, so have fun and let your creativity shine!

Happy Holidays from all of us at Creating Country Decor!

Transform Your Entryway into a Welcoming Haven with a Vintage Touch

June 01, 2024

Howdy. Today, we're gonna take a little journey through time and style to transform your entryway into a warm, welcoming haven with a touch of vintage charm. Picture this: your guests step through your door and are instantly greeted by a cozy space that feels both timeless and homey. Let's dive into how you can mix the old with the new to create a delightful entryway that speaks of comfort, history, and a whole lotta heart.

The Charm of Vintage

There’s something truly magical about vintage items. They carry stories, whispers of the past, and a character that new pieces just can’t replicate. When you bring these treasures into your entryway, you’re not just decorating; you’re setting a stage where history and hospitality converge. Think old wooden benches, antique mirrors, and weathered coat racks that have seen many a winter coat

1. Start with a Statement Piece

Choose one vintage piece that will anchor your entryway. This could be a charming old bench, a distressed wooden console table, or a vintage hall tree. This piece sets the tone and provides a focal point.

2. Add Modern Functionality

While vintage pieces are beautiful, modern items bring convenience. A sleek, contemporary storage basket can sit under that antique bench, ready to hold shoes or umbrellas. A modern lamp on an old table provides good lighting and a stylish contrast.

3. Reflect on Style

An antique mirror can be a showstopper. Its ornate frame and aged glass can add depth and light to your entryway, making the space feel larger and more inviting. Hang it above a new console table for a perfect blend of old and new.

4. Cozy Up with Textiles

Rugs and pillows are an easy way to infuse warmth into your entryway. A vintage-inspired rug with a modern geometric pattern can bridge the gap between eras. Toss a couple of comfy cushions on your bench—mixing old fabric patterns with newer, simpler designs.

5. Personal Touches

Old family photos in modern frames, a vintage vase filled with fresh flowers, or an antique bowl for keys can all add personal charm. These touches tell your guests that they’re not just entering a house; they’re stepping into a home.

Practical Tips for a Functional Entryway

While style is important, your entryway should also be functional. Here are a few tips to ensure it serves you well:

  • Storage Solutions: Use vintage crates or baskets to keep things tidy. A reclaimed wooden shelf can hold hats, gloves, or mail.
  • Seating: A vintage bench isn’t just decorative; it’s practical for sitting while putting on shoes or waiting for others.
  • Hooks and Hangers: Old-fashioned hooks add charm and provide a place for coats, bags, and hats. Look for ones with a bit of patina for extra character.

Finishing Touches

To complete your entryway, think about the little details. A vintage clock on the wall, an old lantern on the floor, or a charming sign with a welcoming message can all add to the ambiance. Fresh flowers or a potted plant can bring life and color, bridging the old and new beautifully.

Rustic Tablescapes and Cozy Porch Decor

Howdy, friends! Memorial Day weekend is here, and it's the perfect time to gather with loved ones, honor our heroes, and enjoy the great outdoors. Today, I've got some delightful ideas for creating the perfect setting with two charming tablescapes and cozy porch decor that will make your home shine with patriotic pride. Plus, I’ll share a scrumptious recipe that's sure to be a hit at your cookout. Let's get started!

Tablescape Ideas

1. Rustic Americana Tablescape

Bring the spirit of the American heartland to your table with a rustic Americana theme. Start with a classic red and white gingham tablecloth as your base. Add some vintage Mason jars filled with wildflowers like daisies and bluebells for a touch of country charm. Use galvanized metal chargers and white enamel plates to keep the look simple yet elegant.

For a centerpiece, arrange a wooden crate filled with red apples, mini American flags, and a few candles in blue-tinted glass jars. Scatter star-shaped confetti around the table for a whimsical touch. Don't forget to tie red, white, and blue ribbons around your napkins for that extra festive flair.

Picture from Pinterest

2. Elegant Patriotic Tablescape

If you prefer a more refined look, an elegant patriotic tablescape might be just the thing. Begin with a crisp white tablecloth and layer it with a navy blue runner down the center. Use your best china or plain white dinnerware, and accent each setting with a silver charger for a bit of sparkle.

Create a sophisticated centerpiece with a mix of red roses, white lilies, and blue hydrangeas in a sleek silver vase. Add crystal candlesticks with white taper candles for a touch of elegance. For a final touch, place a small American flag at each setting, tucked into a navy blue napkin ring.

Porch Decorating Ideas

1. Cozy Country Porch

Transform your porch into a cozy retreat where family and friends can relax and reminisce. Start by hanging a large American flag as a backdrop. Add a comfy seating area with a mix of wicker chairs and a wooden bench adorned with red, white, and blue cushions and throws.

String some white fairy lights around the porch railing for a warm, inviting glow as the sun sets. Use a wooden crate or an old barrel as a side table, topped with a lantern and a small bouquet of fresh flowers. Complete the look with a few vintage touches, like a metal watering can or an old-fashioned milk jug filled with more blooms.

2. Festive Farmhouse Porch

For a more festive look, go for a farmhouse theme. Hang a patriotic wreath on your front door, and drape red, white, and blue bunting along the porch railing. Set up a simple wooden table with a gingham tablecloth and a few folding chairs for an easy outdoor dining area.

Use galvanized buckets filled with colorful flowers to line the steps and add a pop of color. A vintage ladder can be propped up against the wall with small potted plants and lanterns on each rung for a charming display. Finish the look with a welcome sign painted in patriotic colors to greet your guests.

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut the Barn Wood

Start by measuring and cutting your reclaimed barn wood into four pieces. These pieces will form the sides of your frame. The lengths of the pieces will depend on the size of the photo you want to frame. Typically, you’ll want two longer pieces for the top and bottom and two shorter pieces for the sides.

Tip: Use a miter saw to cut the ends at a 45-degree angle for a more professional look and a perfect fit at the corners.

Step 2: Sand the Edges (Optional)

If your barn wood is very rough, lightly sand the edges to smooth out any splinters or sharp points. Be careful to preserve the natural, weathered look of the wood.

Step 3: Glue the Corners

Apply a thin layer of wood glue to the angled ends of each piece. Carefully align the corners and press them together to form a rectangular frame. Use clamps to hold the corners tightly while the glue dries. Allow the glue to set according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually for several hours or overnight.

Tip: Wipe away any excess glue with a damp cloth before it dries to keep your frame looking clean.

Step 4: Attach Picture Frame Hardware

Once the glue is completely dry and the frame feels sturdy, it’s time to attach the picture frame hardware.

  1. Attach sawtooth hangers to the top center of the back of the frame for easy wall mounting.
  2. If you prefer a more secure hold, you can also use corner brackets on the back of the frame for added stability.
  3. If you want the option to stand the frame on a tabletop, consider attaching an easel back.

Tip: Make sure to measure and mark the placement of the hardware to ensure your frame hangs straight.

Step 5: Insert Your Photo

Finally, it’s time to insert your favorite country-themed photo. You can secure the photo in place with small brads, tabs, or by adding a backing board and securing it with clips. If you’re using glass or acrylic to cover the photo, make sure it fits snugly inside the frame.

Incorporate Vintage Finds

May 17, 2024

Transform your home into a nostalgic countryside retreat by incorporating unique vintage finds. Scouring flea markets and antique shops for one-of-a-kind pieces adds character and a sense of history to your decor. Here’s how you can make the most of these timeless treasures:
Creating Country Decor

Old Farm Tools

Bring a touch of agricultural heritage into your home with old farm tools. Hang a rusted pitchfork or a weathered rake on your walls for a striking, rustic display. These tools tell stories of hard work and simpler times, and they make perfect conversation starters. You can also repurpose them creatively; for instance, an old plow blade can become an eye-catching garden sculpture, or a wooden hay rake can be transformed into a unique coat rack.

Vintage Signs

Vintage signs, with their faded paint and charming graphics, add a nostalgic charm to any room. Look for old advertisements, store signs, or street signs to hang in your kitchen, living room, or entryway. These signs often feature classic typography and artwork that provide a whimsical, authentic touch to your country decor. A vintage “Farm Fresh Eggs” sign above the kitchen doorway, for example, instantly transports you to a cozy farmhouse setting.

Distressed Furniture

Distressed furniture pieces are perfect for creating a lived-in, cozy atmosphere. A well-worn dresser, a chippy paint cabinet, or a timeworn farmhouse table can become the centerpiece of your room. The imperfections and patina on these pieces add depth and personality. Place a distressed side table in your living room for a charming accent, or use a weathered dining table for family meals that feel both stylish and homey. Don’t be afraid to mix and match different styles and eras—this eclectic approach enhances the authenticity of your country decor.

Collectibles and Curios

In addition to large items, smaller collectibles and curios can add layers of interest and storytelling to your space. Think vintage mason jars, antique lanterns, old books, and worn leather suitcases. Display these items on open shelves, mantels, or as part of a vignette on a coffee table. They not only serve as decorative elements but also as windows into the past, enriching your home with a sense of history and nostalgia.

Practical Tips for Finding and Using Vintage Finds

  1. Know What to Look For: Have a clear idea of what types of items you need for your space, whether it’s specific pieces of furniture, unique wall decor, or small accent items. This focus will help you make quicker decisions at markets and shops.

  2. Check for Quality: While patina and wear are desirable, ensure the items are structurally sound and safe to use. Check for any major damages that could affect their functionality.

  3. Repurpose Creatively: Think outside the box. An old ladder can become a quirky bookshelf, and vintage suitcases can be stacked to create a unique side table.

  4. Blend with Modern Elements: To avoid an overly dated look, mix your vintage finds with modern pieces. A sleek sofa paired with a distressed coffee table creates a balanced, stylish contrast.

  5. Personalize Your Space: Choose items that resonate with you personally. Whether it’s a piece that reminds you of your childhood or something that fits your aesthetic perfectly, these personal touches make your decor truly unique.
